10 Holiday Events in Lake County To Mark On Your Calendar

Tis the season for turkey and tinsel! With the holidays quickly approaching, Libertyville and the surrounding Lake County area are ringing in the season with tons of community events for both Thanksgiving and the winter holidays. Start planning your celebrations with family and friends, beginning with some of these local happenings.

1.Make Your Own Glass Pumpkin
Nov. 20-Nov. 22
Make room for one last fall-tastic event before the autumn season ends! Peter Patterson Glassworks, located in the village of Mundelein, is dedicating one weekend to glass pumpkin-making classes. These beautiful works of art can be customized in color and size, and are the perfect gift or piece of halloween home decor.

2. Barrington Holiday Wine Walk
Nov. 21
Experience a fun day out at the Barrington Holiday Wine Walk. Running from 2-6pm, adults can indulge in wine sampling, festive snacks and a raffle. Admission is free and guests are encouraged to "shop, sip, and stroll."

3. Thanksgiving for Nature Scavenger Hunt at Half Day Forest Preserve
Nov. 22
Kids can enjoy a breath of fresh fall air at the Half Day Forest Preserve. The preserve's Nature Scavenger Hunt will allow young ones to explore a trail, lined with clues that lead them to "what we should be thankful for in nature." A bonfire with hot beverages will be available afterwards.

4. Gurnee Turkey Trot 5K
Nov. 26
Make room for that turkey by participating in the Gurnee Turkey Trot. Register on the website and push yourself to go the distance for this 5K marathon. Proceeds will go to the John Callaghan Memorial Fund to support cancer research.

5. Libertyville's Holiday on the Square
Nov. 27
River Glen's own surrounding community, Libertyville, will host a festive tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 27 at 7pm. Providing residents with some "hometown cheer," the annual ceremony includes extended shop hours in historic downtown Libertyville, holiday snacks and beverages, Christmas carols and a guest appearance by Santa Claus, himself!

6. Christmas Cookie & Candy Walk
Dec. 4- Dec. 5
There's nothing sweeter than Mundelein's own Christmas Cookie & Candy Walk, located at the Community Protestant Church. Grab some homemade holiday treats and check out the Jingle Bell Room for gently used holiday items; the perfect place the snatch some unique Christmas decor!

7. Elf Dash 5k "Come Chase Santa" in Libertyville
Dec. 12
You ran off the turkey, but now it's time to run off those Christmas cookies. Libertyville's own Elf Dash 5K combines physical activity with holiday cheer! It also takes place on the gorgeous, scenic trails of Independence Grove Forest Preserve.

8. ELF: The Broadway Musical
Oct. 21-Dec.27
Experience the glitz and glamour of Broadway just 15 minutes away from River Glen. This holiday season, Buddy the elf is making his way to the stage of Lincolnshire Marriott, for the acclaimed show ELF: The Musical.

9. Wonderland Express
Nov. 27- Jan. 03
Stroll through the Chicago Botanic Gardens in a whole new way: as a winter wonderland! The 750,000 sparkling lights that line the trees and the holiday exhibit of miniature trains make this experience truly magical for all ages.

10. Let's Wine About Winter
Feb. 20
Once Christmas is over, it's easy to get into a wintertime slump. Relive some holiday cheer with Libertyville's local store-to-store wine tasting. Make this a must, whether you're a visitor or a local, as Main Street shops and boutiques "open their doors to warm your toes with tasty wines at each stop along the way."
